Just wanted you to know, none of you are intriguing. Rather, you're all quite repulsive.
by Theocratic Sedition innot saying that's my personal opinion, but this week's congregation bible study asks the viewpoint question, "would apostate literature or internet sites intrigue you or repulse you?
"- jeremiah book, page 70, para 7. .
gotta love it.. i guess apostate sites are like crime scenes.

THIS NEEDS ITS OWN THREAD:: TODAY's WT Paragraph 16
by Lied2NoMore inhere is what got my spidey senses tingling: paragraph 16, reference to daniel p mannix book, was wondering if his statement was mis-quoted so i did my research.......but was even more shocked when i saw this: .
from amazon dot com reviews................ probably the most provocative work of historical fiction published this century,"those who are about to die" is pure mannix at his best.
a uncensured exploration of what likely took place in the circuses of ancient rome.

WT Society holds EXTREME Responsibility for 1975 and False Expectations
by flipper inhowever- many jw's who have come into the jw organization from like 1985 forward virtually may have no knowledge of the wt society's 1975 debacle and false predictions of the end times or armageddon predictions.
just like in in the book 1984 by george orwell the wt society has a way of not only erasing it's history so no newer witnesses will be aware of their false predictions, but also they are re-writing their history as if those false predictions never happened.. so for those of you here who may have never read or heard of how whipped up into an emotional frenzy witnesses were in the years just before 1975 by the wt society claiming the end was any day now- this threads for you.
to see the pressure that was put on jw's by the wt society to get rid of everything before " armageddon " .

I was too little to understand what was going on. Years later, folks in the hall would tell me tales of brothers who "jumped ahead of the org" by looking to 1975. "How foolish they were!" Finding out the truth has been shocking. These are really disturbing stories.
The environment didn't really change in the 80's. We'd all do the math. "If someone was 10 in 1914, then they'd understand what was happening. So, now in 1984, they're 80. This generation is near its end". And we counted the decreasing partakers in the yearbook. One brother was discouraged from college:"do you realize it will be 1990 when you graduate?? This system will be long gone, by then!"
truly an organization without remorse or conscience.

I think they are distancing themselves to reduce liability. I've been able to avoid door-to-door work almost altogether. And years ago I would have been counseled immediately. I think they might have told Elders not to push too hard on this - since they don't want to seem like they are directing or are responsible for any of the preaching work.

The CO asked for money tonight at the meeting.
by life is to short ini was shocked i do not know why as i have read that the co's were doing this but to hear it with my own ears was unbelievable.
i do not go to the meetings but my husband still does and this week is the co's visit.
i decided that i would listen in to his talk; i swear i have lost some brain cells by doing it but anywho.. he started out by talking about the old story that has been in the wt many times about a little boy who was seven and raised a chicken and gave the money to the society.

LITS- I found it very disturbing and pushy, also.
See the thread I started, not too long ago:

NWT Matt 18:2 Child referred to as "it"

The NWT translation renders Matt 18:2 this way,
"So, calling a young child to him, he set it in their midst "
Calling a child "it" made me curious. I looked up other translations and did not find a similar phrasing. All referred to the child as "the child" or "him".
EX: "And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, ... from the King James Bible Online (KJV Bible)."
Is the NWT rendering demeaning? Am I reading too much into this?

JEHOVAH NEEDS YOUR MONEY FOR 2014!!!!!!!!
by DATA-DOG inhas anyone else recieved the letter from the gb about international conventions in 2014?
according to the letter the missionarys/order of full time servants desperately need to get to the conventions in their homeland.
so to accomplish this, jehovah needs 15 cents per publisher, per congregation for some months ( sorry i can't remember the exact length of time ).

Data Dog - You beat me to it. I was going to start this topic too. It was read in my congregration yesterday, also. I was amazed that they needed a "special" fund to cover this cost - especially with the multimillion dollar property sales.
Some highlights for me (from memory):
"You are allowed to personally help a missionary" -Wow, thanks. Good to know I have permission to give my money to someone else, if I choose.
"The missionary whom you have helped, will be able to draw down less money from the fund" - So, you missionaries, fess up on any help you received.
In all, it felt like extortion. These people aren't coming home unless you pay up.

Messed up? Welcome to the club, johnjohns....lol (and welcome to the forum too)
It's been good to hear the experiences on this thread. We all know that we're not alone.
Sex is vital to a healthy and happy life. We've been robbed of so much that is natural and good.
You're still young - thankfully you'll have time to heal and sort it all out and learn from new experiences.

I don't think its "new news" that they're asking for money. However, I do agree that there is a stronger focus on it, now. This letter seems to be an example of that.
Our last CO visit (I started a thread on it) featured a talk entirely on the subject of donations. Inever heard anything like it during a CO's visit.
I wonder if this will be read to congregations in the US, anytime soon....

no doubt about it. I experienced so much guilt over thinking about it so-much in my teens. And I married young - like everyone else. In middle-age now, and I can't get over that I have had only one partner - which I know is crazy and makes sense - all at the same time.
